Nobel
Alfred Nobel was born in 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden to a family of engineers. In 1866 Alfred invented the dynamite and later built up companies and laboratories in more than 20 countries. He also wrote poetry and drama and considered becoming a writer. A private institution established in 1900 based on the will of Alfred Nobel manages the assets for the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace. On December 10 the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine and Literature are awarded at the Stockholm Concert Hall followed by a banquet at the Stockholm City Hall for about 1300 people.. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo at the Oslo City Hall. Later the same day, a banquet is held in honor of the Laureate, with specially invited guests.
